A marchetaria é uma técnica artística usada para produzir ou decorar moveis, objetos, painéis, pisos ou superfícies planas com laminas de madeira, madrepérola, pedras, marfim e/ou metais formando desenhos ornamentais. Pode ainda a marchetaria ser feita através da colagem de laminas de madeira para serem torneadas ou esculpidas formando um desenho geométrico com os diferentes tons de madeiras nobres.
A palavra é de origem francesa e significa embutir. Maqueson é o mais importante e reconhecido artesã brasileiro que trabalha com marchetaria. Filho da floresta, nasceu em 30 de agosto de 1958, no seringal flora, município Porta Walter, Estado do Acre. Aos 18 anos com a ajuda dos padres alemães foi estudar em Santa Catarina, em um Seminário, onde estudou filosofia, teologia e aprendeu uma profissão – a Marchetaria. Após duas décadas de aprendizado voltou para sua terra natal, o Acre, Sensibilizado com a realidade existente em sua cidade e com a cabeça cheia de questionamentos começa a pensar em ser mais um a contribuir para que mudanças ocorressem na região que pudessem gerar desenvolvimento.
É dentro deste contexto que nasce em 1994 a ideia da oficina de marchetaria com o objetivo de ensinar a técnica a jovens da região e proporcionar-lhes melhores expectativas de vida. As delicadas laminas de madeira em suas mãos se transformam em paisagens, aves, flores que representam a fauna e a flora da Amazônia, que tanto podem ser um belo quadro, uma caixa para guardar joias, uma bolsa feminina ou pequeno marcador de página de livros. Atualmente seus trabalhos são peças de coleção devido a altíssima qualidade.
Sua empresa artesanal: Marchetaria do Acre, sediada no município de Cruzeiro do Sul – Acre, produz e exporta diversos produtos de madeira para todo o mundo.
